PERICORONITIS EMERGENCY TREATMENT

TMJ disorders

WHAT IS A PERICORONITIS ?

Pericoronitis is gum tissue inflammation or swelling. It commonly occurs around your wisdom teeth, the third and final molars that most people obtain in their late teens or early 20s when food particles become trapped between the teeth and gums. This can cause irritation and infection.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU NEED A PERICORONITIS PROCEDURE DONE

A dental implant is an artificial tooth that permanently replaces a missing tooth. Dental implants can replace a single missing tooth or multiple teeth including every tooth in the upper and lower arches. Dental implants are fused directly into the jawbones providing the stability and function of natural teeth.

PERICORONITIS PROCEDURE

We will first of all be flush out away any food particles and waste accumulated in the area. Then, to clear up the infection, we will prescribe a course of oral antibiotics. We will also advise you to use an antibacterial mouth rinse to clean the diseased region. You can use over-the-counter pain medicines or a pain reliever prescribed by your dentist to treat the pain.

What occurs next is determined by the wisdom tooth’s condition. Pericoronitis can sometimes develop around a tooth that is still erupting but will continue to come in usually. In that instance, we will keep an eye on the area until the tooth has fully erupted to ensure it remains clean and the infection does not recur. If your symptoms are severe, modest oral surgery to remove the flap of gum tissue may be required (called the operculum).

BENEFITS OF PERICORONITIES TREATMENT

LESS CROWDING MEANS FEWER ORTHODONTIC PROBLEMS

Wisdom teeth can jam your dentition and cause damage to neighboring molars as they mature and erupt. Wisdom teeth can cause alignment concerns over time if there isn’t enough room for them. As a result, removing your wisdom teeth reduces your chances of needing braces or other costly forms of corrective surgery to rectify tooth misalignment. If you’ve already undergone braces or corrective dental surgery, wisdom tooth extraction reduces the risk of your hard-won smile being ruined.

SAVES MONEY

Wisdom teeth extraction can save you money on root canals and fillings, both painful and expensive.

MINIMIZE THE CHANCE OF ORAL DISEASE AND INFLAMMATION

Infections that get under your gums can disrupt your nerves or enter your bloodstream, causing sepsis, a life-threatening condition that affects the rest of your body. Sepsis is a dangerous and life-threatening condition.

LESSEN OROFACIAL PAIN

Wisdom tooth extraction offers the added benefit of alleviating simple discomfort in addition to preventing cavities and disease. The removal of those troublesome third molars allows for reduced pressure, reduced gum sensitivity, and reduced tooth sensitivity. As a result, you’ll have a higher quality of life and fewer restrictions on what you can eat and drink. The pressure exerted by wisdom teeth can cause chronic headaches.

With the proper medications, mild pericoronitis can cure in a matter of days or weeks. With correct dental surgery, severe pericoronitis can heal in a matter of weeks or months. If you merely use antibiotics and don’t have surgery, severe pericoronitis can take months to heal.

Severe pericoronitis symptoms may require a dental fix. This is especially true when the pericoronal abscess is rapidly spreading, and the lymph nodes are swollen.

If the pus is not treated promptly, it might move to other parts of the mouth, spreading the infection. The most conservative treatment approach is to disinfect the diseased area with a saltwater rinse, washing away any bacteria and food particles stuck in the gum.

If the bleeding is extreme or won’t stop, go to the emergency hospital. If you bite your lip, tongue, or other soft tissue in your mouth, clean the area and apply a cool compress to minimize swelling.

Pericoronitis, however, does not go away on its own. If left untreated, it can become hazardous in as little as a few weeks. Either the tissue flap or the wisdom tooth must usually be removed. If there is a disease, an antibiotic will be required.

Our sleeping position is the crucial reason why toothaches are more painful at night. More blood rushes to our heads when we lie down, putting additional pressure on sensitive places like our mouths. We don’t feel the pounding as strongly because we’re primarily standing or sitting during the day.
